Vantage Point / Movie Scores

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 14, 2008, 10:08 AM
8 Strangers. 8 Points of View. 1 Truth.

On Sunday morning I watched Vantage Point. I only knew Matthew Fox is starring in it and it's got something to do with an attack on a president, and the story being told from different views. Although the whole movie only goes for 90 minutes and the actual rather short plot is only 23 minutes and repeats 3 or 4 times from different views before it finally advances and gets resolved. Every view adds new twists and towards the end I felt like I was watching a season of 24, without Jack Bauer, stuffed into 90 minutes. There's not one boring moment and every WTF event is followed by an even bigger WTF event.
I'm getting a little tired of all those generic terrorism themed TV shows and movies but Vantage Point is a little more creative in its concept at least.

I'm currently in love with the Blade Runner score by Vangelis. Surprisingly, or rather shockingly, I've never watched Bade Runner until recently. I fell in love with it right from the beginning and even though it's got about 25 years on its back by now, it's still by light years better than some of the Sci-Fi trash floating about nowadays. It's one of the very few movies I consider artistic masterpieces. And its score is perfect and done so well I just gotta put on 'Blade Runner Blues', close my eyes and with a chill of my spine I'm in the fictional L.A. in 2019. That score has almost spiritual qualities! At the moment I really can't think of a movie score that's that touching.

What's your favorite movie score?

Speaking of Blade Runner, I got its Final Cut, along with 28 Weeks later, I Am Legend and the Planet Earth series, all on Blu-Ray, when $chix0r and $zilla774 called me up around noon and Ian was bragging about his new 40 feet ultra widescreen alien plasma TV and PS3 and 23.1 surround sound system. We also laughed our asses off watching Pablo Francisco.
I'm also using my PS3 to "slide" through deviantART images. Ever since I've signed up to dA in 2003 I've been saving my favorite deviations to a single folder which by now contains almost 4,000 images, and sorted by file creation date, it's not only great to browse through dA artwork from old to new, but it also show how my taste has developed over time.
So I copied that entire folder over to my PS3 and now I can look at a deviantART slide on my TV!
I think one day I'll get a giant LCD TV just for that and hang it on my wall and surround it with "normal" wall art.

Lastly, if that one alarmist article by outrageous fuckhead Mark Simon of Animation World Network is still your #1 source on the current Orphan Works flyshit, read Countering the FUD about the "Orphan Works" copyright bill (that doesn't exist). Orph0wned?

Have a devious week!

Vantage Point and Blade Runner *writes down*

I remember seeing previews for Vantage Point but it never really grasped me. If someone gives it thumbs up, though, I'm willing to give it a chance.

Blade Runner I've been meaning to watch for such a long long time, but I never got around to it. My brother adores that movie so much. I'm sure I'll probably love it.

I'm making a stop at Blockbuster today so I'll probably check them out then.

As for a favorite score... hmm.. I always loved the music from the Star Wars movies... especially the originals. And though I didn't particularly like the movie itself, Titanic had a gorgeous very relaxing musical score.

The hubby and I got to see 21 last night. Damn good movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it. :D Good score too! It was... quirky?

And it's so hard for me to decide on any one movie score. I'm such a huge nerd for movie music. I will say that anything by Hans Zimmer and John Williams gives me large amounts of the happies. I could listen to them all day.

i absolutely ADORED Vantage Point. and urban terrorism never seems to get boring for me.

Check out Vantage point on Metacritic, all you see is negativity, and it pisses me off.

All I can say is I watched 27 Dresses this weekend.. worst £6 ever spent. The only thing I enjoyed was the company but please just don't ever watch that movie.

I saw Vantage Point a few weeks back now; it was a last resort actually. The one i went to see was sold out. I'm kinda glad it was now. Certainly one of my favs of recent months.

blade runner is one of my favourite movies of all time. the soundtrack is probably up there with requiem for a dream and the last temptation of christ as my all time greatest film soundtracks...
